Rogers State University has named Louis Ross as Chief of Campus Police to oversee and direct all campus policing and security at its campuses in Claremore, Bartlesville and Pryor. Ross will lead the university in promoting a safe, secure and service-oriented environment for all students, faculty, staff, alumni and visitors to the university. He assumed the role on August 10.
“I am pleased to announce our new Chief of Campus Police. Louis has a wealth of experience in law enforcement,” Dr. Robert Goltra III, vice president for student affairs, said. “He has a proven track record of building positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders through ethical, fair and sound approaches to campus policing.”
Ross joins RSU having most recently served as Chief of Police for Seminole State College in Seminole, OK. During his time at Seminole State College, he revised the emergency operation plan, built relationships and collaborated with local law enforcement communities to improve campus resources.
“I am honored and pleased to serve as the next Chief of Campus Police for Rogers State University,” Ross said. “My family and I are excited to join the RSU family as well as the community of Claremore. I look forward to a great working relationship with administration, faculty, staff and students.”
Ross has served in the United States Army Reserve and the 95th Division Military Police. His training and certifications include Field Training Officer, Firearms Instructor, Evidence Technician, Investigations Division, Drug Task Force Detail, Code Enforcement Officer, Emergency Medical Service, Animal Control and the Child Protective Team. Ross received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Langston University and a Master of Criminal Justice Administration from Oklahoma City University. He has more than 27 years as a law enforcement professional.
“His extensive training, certifications and philosophy toward campus policing separated him as the best candidate to lead the Rogers State University Police Department. We look forward to his presence on campus,” Goltra said.
Ross places an emphasis on service as the core value of campus policing.
“Service to the RSU community is intertwined with safety. We cannot have one without the other. I have an open-door policy, and I will always make efforts to be available to every member of the university community,” Ross said.
The Rogers State University Police Department is a division of the Office of Student Affairs. RSUPD is a full-time, state certified police department with officers on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. RSUPD is staffed by commissioned peace officers that meet the standards of the Oklahoma Council for Law Enforcement Education and Training.
