Phillips joined the university in 2012 following a career in managing fundraising and capital campaigns, specializing in the higher education and healthcare industry. His higher education experience included working for the Eastern Oklahoma State College Development Foundation and Lubbock Christian University. He also had more than two decades of managing experience in the insurance and retail sectors.
At RSU, he oversaw all university fundraising initiatives, planned giving, endowments, scholarships and alumni programs, while also serving as university’s liaison to the RSU Foundation.
“I am appreciative of Maynard’s service to the university and all he has done to support our students,” said RSU President Dr. Larry Rice. “The RSU Foundation provides a crucial role in helping the university thrive. Their efforts help give our students financial assistance when public funds and scholarships may not be available.”
During Phillips’ time at RSU, he helped finalize fundraising for construction of the Chapman Dining Hall and also strengthened the RSU Foundation’s scholarship fundraising events such as the annual scholarship auction and scholarship breakfasts in Claremore, Bartlesville and Pryor. Those events have had record proceeds in recent years to provide scholarships to deserving students. Last year, the RSU Foundation helped oversee the distribution of more than $800,000 in scholarships, endowments and other student support.
“It has been an honor to work with area business owners, community leaders and university officials to provide opportunities to RSU students through scholarships, endowments and other fundraising initiatives,” Phillips said. “I believe our efforts have made a significant difference in the lives of our students and their families.”
The university will conduct a comprehensive search for Phillips’ replacement.
