New RSU Basketball Band to Begin Rehearsals Next Week

The new Rogers State University Basketball Band will begin rehearsals on Thursday, Sept. 20, in preparation for the upcoming season.

The band will perform at all RSU men’s and women’s home basketball games at the Claremore Expo Center. Membership is open to any RSU student, qualified high school student or community member.

The band will feature traditional collegiate pep band instrumentation, said Joe Cernuto, band director. “Basically, this is an indoor marching band – without the marching,” he said. “We plan to have traditional marching band instruments.”

The band instrumentation will include flutes/piccolos, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, baritones, mellophones, sousaphones, percussion (drum set and auxiliary), guitar and bass guitar. There will be no cost to members of the band, Cernuto said.

Those interested in joining the band are invited to its first rehearsal from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20. The rehearsal will be held in Room 102 of Baird Hall on the RSU campus in Claremore. Regular rehearsals will be held each Thursday evening.
