Students will graduate with sufficient competitive skills and knowledge to obtain meaningful employment and facilitate reasonable career advancement in the area of sport management.
A sport management education provides students with the administrative skills needed for the success of organizations that focus on sport activities, sport products, or sport services.
The curriculum familiarizes students with the diverse aspects of sport management, including:
- Management Competencies
- Facility Management
- Marketing and Finance of Sport
- Sport Law and Ethical Issues
- Media Relations
- Sport Tourism
An internship at the conclusion of the students’ academic preparation provides them with on-the-job experience and networking opportunities. In addition to employment, this degree will prepare students for graduate school.
Careers in Sport Management
The growth and development of the sports industry world-wide has created opportunities for management professionals in a wide variety of settings. Upon completion of the Sport Management degree students will be prepared to work in the sport industry including positions in:
- intercollegiate athletics
- professional sport teams and leagues
- youth sports and recreation
- sport marketing and management firms
- sport facility and event management
- golf course management
- fitness facilities
- sport tourism
Students are educated for careers as administrators and managers in athletic, health, and country clubs, as well as entry-level management positions in college and professional athletic organizations. Additionally, students are prepared for diverse roles in the areas of sport marketing and promotions, facility management and planning, activity programming and event management. According to studies completed at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, the sports industry ranks as the 11th largest in the United States with annual revenues estimated at $375 billion.
