B.S. in Community Counseling

Department Mission: The mission of the Department of Psychology, Sociology, and Criminal Justice is to assist students in developing knowledge and understanding of social, legal and psychological issues and to operate effectively in today’s legal, social, and culturally diverse community.

Degree Program Mission: The Bachelors of Science Degree in Community Counseling is designed to foster and understanding of counseling theories, social issues, and effective counseling practices with a diverse population. The degree will prepare students to work with children, adults , families, and groups in numerous human service settings.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Students will demonstrate critical thinking skills by comprehending and applying counseling theories to real world.
  2. Students will analyze and synthesize Human Service Research.
  3. Students will demonstrate knowledge of counseling ethics and apply to real world examples.
  4. Students will participate in service learning project and apply counseling knowledge to service practice.
  5. Students will comprehend and apply a multicultural perspective.
  6. Students will evaluate their academic experience and report academic program satisfaction.

B.S. in Social Science

Department Mission: The mission of the Department of History and Political and the Department of Psychology, Sociology, and Criminal Justice is to assist students in developing knowledge and understanding of social and legal issues and to operate effectively in today’s legal, social and culturally diverse community.

Degree Program Mission: The program mission of the Department of History and Political Science and the Department of Psychology, Sociology and Criminal Justice is to provide a multi-disciplinary degree that stresses competence in written and oral communications and scientific reasoning and thinking skills.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Students will demonstrate Interdisciplinary knowledge about issues related to diverse concepts and explanations of human behavior.
  2. Students will demonstrate the skills necessary to function effectively in civic engagement activities.
  3. Students will demonstrate an understanding of research methodologies and their appropriate use in social sciences.
  4. Students will express satisfaction that their learning has been enhanced by community, cultural, and intellectual opportunities provided in the social science degree.

A.A. in Elementary Education

Department Mission: The mission of the Department of Psychology, Sociology, and Criminal Justice is to assist students in developing knowledge and understanding of social, legal and psychological issues and to operate in today’s legal, social, and culturally diverse community.

Degree Program Mission: The Elementary Education Program is intended to prepare students for a career in teaching kindergarten and all elementary school grade levels. The program is designed to provide the student with the first two years of general requirements to transfer to a four-year program.

Student Learning Outcomes:

  1. Students will successfully complete general education course work/credit hours required for admission to Oklahoma four-year institutions offering Bachelor of Education degrees.
  2. Students will demonstrate competency in General Education requirements.
  3. Students will indicate satisfaction with their education and education preparation for a teacher education program.
