State Treasurer Ken Miller to Deliver RSU Commencement Address

Rogers State University’s 99th Commencement, featuring two ceremonies and nearly 700 graduates, will be held Saturday, May 7, at the Claremore Expo Center, 400 S. Veterans Pkwy.

Graduates earning associate degrees will participate in a 10 a.m. ceremony, while graduates receiving bachelor’s degrees will walk during the 1 p.m. ceremony.

Oklahoma State Treasurer Ken Miller will serve as commencement speaker for the bachelor’s degree ceremony.

“I am looking forward to what Treasurer Miller has to share during this year’s commencement address,” said RSU President Dr. Larry Rice. “He has demonstrated remarkable leadership and conviction during his career and our graduates stand to gain a great deal from his perspective.”

Miller has served as Oklahoma’s 18th State Treasurer since January 10, 2011.

A Republican from Edmond, he served for six years in the Oklahoma House of Representatives where he led the Appropriations and Budget Committee and guided Oklahoma through the largest spending cuts in state history.

Miller holds a doctorate in political economics from the University of Oklahoma, as well as a master’s of business administration from Pepperdine University and a bachelor’s degree in economics and finance from Lipscomb University.

He is an economics professor at Oklahoma Christian University. He has been honored with the “Who’s Who Among American Teachers” award and the Merrick Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching Free Enterprise.

Prior to his election to the State Legislature, Miller served in the administration of Governor Frank Keating as chairman of the Legislative Compensation Board where he established a 10-year freeze on legislative salaries.

Prior to his public service, Miller began a career in banking at First American National Bank before joining MediFax-EDS, where he served as financial operations manager.

RSU professor Gary Moeller will speak at the associate degree ceremony. He is head of the RSU Department of Fine Arts and has taught art at RSU since 1979. Moeller has held several administrative positions, including instructor, coordinator and director of the institution’s art department.

The May 7 commencement marks the 10th year RSU has graduated bachelor’s degree candidates since being accredited as a four-year university in August 2000.
