News Databases
EBSCO databases, especially Newspaper Source Plus and Academic Search Complete . These are also flexible enough to allow searching by date, even if you don’t have any search terms, but only back to 1994. Searchable from home with a password.
Lexis Nexis Academic: This requires at least one search term and permits you to limit that search by date. It contains the New York Times full text back to 1980, with indexing back to 1969; Newsweek back to 1975; Christian Science Monitor back to 1980; etc. Searching Lexis can be a little tricky. Call a Reference Librarian at 343-7770 if you need help. To search from home, your computer must be able to authenticate through the college IP address.
Wall Street Journal: Daiy paper, online from 1984 through today's paper. To search by date, enter through the Journals link from the library home page .
Useful Websites
www.brainyhistory.com This web site enables searching by date for events, births, and deaths (they do not promise to include your birthday).
American Memory: From the Library of Congress (more selective, and your search controls the day but not the year)
