FAQs

Q. How many items may I check out at one time?

A. Students may have a combined total of 20 items checked out at one time. Of the 20 items, students are limited to no more than 15 books, 8 DVDs, and 8 CDs.

Community Borrowers may have a combined total of 10 items checked out at one time. Of the 10 items, Community Borrowers are limited to no more than 5 books, 5 DVDs, and 5 CDs.

RSU Alumni may have a combined total of 10 items checked out at one time. Of the 10 items, RSU Alumni are limited to no more than 5 books, 5 DVDs, and 5 CDs.

Q. How do I renew RSU library materials or discuss overdue notice messages, holds placed on accounts for non-return of library materials, or invoices received for library materials not returned?

A. Renew materials or discuss overdue notices contact the Circulation Desk at 918-343-7716 or 918-343-7770. Discuss holds placed on accounts or invoices for non-return of library materials contact Allison Embry at 918-343-7717 or aembry@rsu.edu.

Q. How do I see my user record (checkouts, holds, etc.)?

A.

  • Go to the library catalog
  • Click on My Account in the horizontal menu bar
  • Your user ID is the barcode on your student ID. Your password the first time you log in is changeme.
  • Once logged in you will be able to view account information, change your password, etc.

Q. How do I log in to access journal articles from home?

A.

  • From the Library Homepage, click on Articles (Databases)
  • Select A-to-Z List, By Subject, or By Application
  • Click on a database link
  • Enter your RSU username and password in the pop-up window

Q. How do I find a book in the catalog?

A.

  • From the Library Homepage select Library Catalog
  • Use the Basic Search screen or select Power Search
  • Click on Advanced Search
  • Type in your title, author, subject, etc.
  • Press Search 

Q. How do I find a particular journal article for an assignment?
A. First, check with your instructor to find out if she has placed the article on reserve. If so, come by the library or email/call us and we will get you what you need. If the article you need is not on reserve:

  • From the Library Homepage, click Journal Titles
  • Under Access Instructions, click on the journals link
  • Type in the title of the journal
  • When you press the Search button, the system indicates whether library has the title in print or online
  • Click on the links to a database search page
  • Enter your RSU username & password in the pop-up window (same username & password you use for your student email or to log on to campus computers)
  • The database page opens filtered to search for articles from the journal you specified

Q. How can I check out an item if I can’t come to the library?

A. Contact Allison Embry at 918-343-7716 or 918-343-7717 or aembry@rsu.edu.
Have the title of the book/article handy. Books will be checked out to your account and sent via UPS. Articles can be emailed, faxed, or sent via UPS. Allow 24-48 hours plus shipping time for items sent via mail. (same-day service for faxed/emailed articles if request is received by 12:00 pm Central Time, otherwise next business day).

Q. How do I research a topic using the library’s online resources?

A. Books: Search the library catalog for authors, titles, subjects, and other terms you’re interested in. You can easily limit searches by publication date/format of item (book, CD, etc.) by selecting the advanced search option.

Journal Articles:

  • From the Library Homepage, click on Articles (Databases)
  • Select A-to-Z List, By Subject, or By Application
  • Click on a database link
  • Off campus?  Enter your RSU username* and password in the pop-up window

Q. What if the library doesn’t have what I need?

A. As a member of the OCLC Interlibrary loan (ILL) network, we have access to more than 100 million books and journal articles from libraries around the world. If it’s in print, we can almost certainly get it for you! Three ways to submit an ILL request:

  • Drop by the library and submit a written request
  • Contact George Gottschalk, Serials/ILL Librarian, at 918-343-7720 or at ggottschalk@rsu.edu
  • Complete the request online at Interlibrary Loan request form
  • Allow 10 business days for delivery. ILL items can be picked up at the library or sent directly to your home on request (allow for additional shipping time).

Q. What are playaways?  Can I use the library catalog to search for playaways?

A. Playaways are preloaded audio players. Simply plug in the earphones and enjoy.  To search the library catalog for playaways:

  • Select Playaway in the item category field
  • Press Search.  Video tutorial

Q. I have more questions—what do I do?
