FAQs

Q. How do I renew RSU library materials or discuss overdue notice messages, holds placed on accounts for non-return of library materials, or invoices received for library materials not returned?
A.

To renew library materials or discuss overdue notices:

  • Contact the Circulation Desk at 918-343-7716 or 918-343-7770

To discuss holds placed on accounts for non-return of library materials or invoices received for library materials not returned:

Q. How do I see my user record (checkouts, holds, etc.)?
A.
  1. Go to the library catalog from the library home page.
  2. At the upper right corner you will see a box asking for user ID and pin number.
  3. Your user ID is the barcode on your student ID. Your password the first time you log in is changeme.
  4. Once logged in you will be able to view account information, change your password, etc.

Q. How do I log in to access journal articles from home?
A.
  1. Go to https://libsearch.rsu.edu
  2. Use the same username and password you use to access your student email or the computer labs on campus.
  3. Need help?

Q. How do I find a book in the catalog?
A.
  1. Go to the library catalog.
  2. At the top center of the screen you will see the words Advanced Search beneath a search box.
  3. Click on Advanced Search
  4. Type in your title, author, subject, etc.
  5. Press Search

Q. How do I find a particular journal article for an assignment?
A.

First, check with your instructor to find out if she has placed the article on reserve. If so, come by the library or email/call us and we will get you what you need.

If the article you need is not on reserve:

  1. Select Journals from the Stratton Taylor Library Menu
  2. Follow on-campus or off-campus Access Instructions
  3. Type in the title of the journal you are looking for (not the article)
  4. When you click the search button, the system indicates whether the library has the title in print or online.
  5. Click on the links to a database search page
  6. The database page is automatically limited to search for articles from the journal you specified.

Q. How can I check out an item if I can’t come to the library?
A.

Easy as 1-2-3! Simply call the library at (918)343-7716 or (918)343-7719, or email Sarah Clark at sclark@rsu.edu . Have the title of the book/article handy. Books will be checked out to your account and sent via UPS. Articles can be emailed, faxed, or sent via UPS. Allow 24-48 hours plus shipping time for items sent via mail. (same-day service for faxed/emailed articles if request is received by 12:00 pm Central Time, otherwise next business day)

Q. How do I research a topic using the library’s online resources?
A.

Books: Search the library catalog for authors, titles, subjects, and other terms you’re interested in. You can easily limit searches by publication date/format of item (book, CD, etc.) by selecting the advanced search option.

Journal Articles:

  1. From the Library's Home Page, click on databases
  2. Select on campus or off campus method
  3. Search by one or more subjects, keywords, authors, titles, or other search categories
  4. Need help?  View the video tutorial or read these access instructions

Web Resources: Visit our Useful Websites page to see a list of reliable websites on various topics. Feel free to ask a librarian if you need a second opinion on the reliability of a website’s information.

Resource guides: Take a look at our resource guides to find some of the best reference materials we have on various topics. We also have resource guides for specific assignments you may encounter in Comp. 1 or other classes.

Government information: Select Government Information to access our online government resources. For more information on using government documents, please contact Carolyn Gutierrez at 343-7786 or via email.

Q. What if the library doesn’t have what I need?
A.

As a member of the OCLC Interlibrary loan (ILL) network, we have access to more than 100 million books and journal articles from libraries around the world. If it’s in print, we can almost certainly get it for you!

Three ways to submit an ILL request:

  1. Drop by the library and submit a written request
  2. Contact Jan Ferris, Serials/ILL Librarian, at 918-343-7720 or at jferris@rsu.edu
  3. Complete the request online at Interlibrary Loan request form

Allow 10 business days for delivery. ILL items can be picked up at the library or sent directly to your home on request (allow for additional shipping time)

Q. I have more questions—what do I do?
A.

If you are trying to find more information on a topic, or are having problems using or connecting to a library resource, contact Sarah Clark between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. If you need immediate help outside those hours, call the library front desk at (918) 343-7716 when the library is open.

NOTE: RSU has limited technical support on evenings and weekends, so you may have to wait until the next business day before a connectivity problem can be addressed. Thanks for your patience!
