Signing Event Helps Share Story of RSU Student’s Cancer Battle

A new book about a former student’s life-ending battle with cancer will be the subject of a book signing at the Rogers State University Bookstore from 11 am to 1 pm on Wednesday, Nov. 18.

“The Derek Keniston Story: Who Am I…” recounts the diagnosis, treatment and death of Derek Keniston, a biology – environmental conservation student whose battle with a rare cancer became a story of inspiration in the local faith community.

The book was published in September by Derek Keniston’s father, Tim Keniston, who will be present at the book signing. Tim Keniston previously had spoken about how his son’s faith impacted his battle with cancer at area churches.

Derek Keniston was a student at RSU in 2009 when he was diagnosed with angiosarcoma, a rare cancer that affects the inner lining of blood vessels. He continued his education into his second year, when his health prevented him from attending classes. He died on Oct. 7, 2010, at the age of 20.
