RSU’s ‘Lunch on the Hill’ Rescheduled for June 27

“Lunch on the Hill,” a picnic lunch and public address by Rogers State University President Dr. Joe Wiley, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, June 27, on the lawn of RSU’s main campus in Claremore. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be sponsored by Reasor’s Food Store.

A free picnic lunch will be served at 11:45 a.m. on the lawn between RSU’s Meyer Hall and Will Rogers Auditorium. Wiley will provide a “State of the University” address at approximately 12:15 p.m.

Those attending may bring picnic blankets. Some seating will be provided. In the event of rain, the event will be moved into Post Hall. Parking will be available west of Post Hall and west of the RSU Library.

“We’d like to invite the community to visit our beautiful campus and hear about all the exciting developments at the university,” Wiley said. “I’d also like to give the public an idea of where we’re going in the next few years.”

Last fall, RSU began offering four bachelor’s degrees in Business Information Technology, Applied Technology, Liberal Arts, and Social Sciences. This fall, the university plans to offer a bachelor’s degree in Biology, pending the approval of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. In addition, the university continues to offer associate’s degrees in a wide variety of disciplines.

Enrollment of freshmen increased by 23 percent last fall, and is expected to reach early 5,000 students in the next five years, Wiley said.

This spring, RSU broke ground on an $8.3 million student residence hall, scheduled for completion in August. The state-of-the-art facility will feature Internet connections in every room, a swimming pool, and outdoor sand volleyball courts. In addition, the facility will include computer laboratories and student meeting rooms. The facility will feature a neo-Georgian design in keeping with the architectural theme of the university’s other historic buildings. The residence hall will accommodate 248 students.

Also this spring, RSU began an extensive renovation of the historic Markham Hall, allowing the institution to consolidate all advising, enrollment, and student services in one convenient location.

The university’s long-range campus master plan for its main campus in Claremore includes new classroom buildings, a new library facility, and a performing arts center. Expansions also are planned for the university’s branch campuses in Bartlesville and Pryor.

The picnic lunch will be sponsored by Reasor’s Food Store and the RSU Foundation.
