How to Take a Quiz/Test/Survey in WebCT

Before Beginning the Quiz

  1. Make sure that you have pop-up blockers turned off. The test opens in a new window and pop-up blockers can prevent this from happening.
  2. If you click "Begin" and no test appears then your pop-up blockers are probably turned on.
    • Internet Explorer for Windows - From the Tools menu choose Pop-up Blocker and choose Turn Off Pop-up Blocker
    • Internet Explorer for Mac - you don't have to turn them off on the Mac
    • Safari for Mac - From the Safari menu uncheck Block Pop-up Windows
  3. Do not double-click on the links for the quiz. This can mess you up by covering the test with the main browser window. This confuses many people so only single-click on the "Begin" button.
  4. Some tests/quizzes/surveys may be timed. When you begin the quiz a pop-up window will alert you to this fact and will let you know how much time you have. A countdown clock will appear above the Question Status area on the right side of the window to help you keep track of your time. Be aware of this time as your professor has the capability to disregard any answers you submit after the allotted time has elapsed.

To Take the Quiz

  1. Click the link for the test/quiz/survey you with to take.
  2. A window of instructions will appear. Read the instructions then click Begin Quiz.
  3. A new window will appear that contains either all the test questions or only one test question (this is set by your professor).
  4. Read the question then click on the radio button next to what you feel is the correct answer.
  5. After you have marked the correct answer you must click Save Answer FOR EACH QUESTION. This is very important. This is what actually saves the answer in case your computer crashes.
  6. Once you have clicked Save Answer the Question Status icon (to the right) will change to a check mark. If you do not see a check mark your question is not saved.
  7. To change a saved answer just select a new radio button and click Save Answer again. You must resave the new answer.
  8. If your test/quiz/survey is being delivered one question at a time then you must select Next Question AFTER you save your answer to the current question.
  9. When you have finished all questions and have rechecked your answers click Finish to submit the test for grading. You must click Finish to actually submit the test for grading.
  10. MPORTANT: Once you click Finish you may not make any changes to the test answers.
