Rogers State University has announced it will begin offering college-level classes for high school students on-site at Bartlesville High School this fall.
The college classes will be offered during the day and seamlessly integrated into the class schedules of high school students.
“In the past, many BHS students have taken college classes at RSU online or by driving to the downtown campus. Now they will be able to walk down the hall to take college classes,” said Chuck McCauley, BHS principal. “We are very excited to have RSU offering classes here at the high school.”
In addition, high school students may take up to six hours of college classes per semester tuition-free through the popular RSU Concurrent Enrollment Program for High School Students. The classes will transfer to any college or university in Oklahoma and most out-of-state institutions.
This fall, RSU will offer College Algebra and Composition I classes at BHS and university officials anticipate adding more classes in the future.
RSU officials said they would like to expand the program to other high schools in Washington and Nowata counties and have been working with high schools in Nowata, Dewey, Copan, and South Coffeyville.
“This is a way for high school students to get a head start on college, earn college credits early, challenge themselves academically, and best of all, receive free tuition, a significant savings for them and their parents,” said Bill Beierschmitt, provost and chief operating officer of the RSU campus in Bartlesville.
To qualify for the program, high school seniors must have an ACT composite score of 19 or above or a GPA of at least 3.0 and a top 50 percent class rank to enroll in classes at RSU. Juniors must have a minimum ACT composite score of 21 or a GPA of at least 3.5 to enroll in college-level classes. Home-schooled students must be at least 16 years of age with a minimum ACT score of 21 or 17 years of age with an ACT score of 19 or above. Certain ACT subject scores may be required for students to enroll in some classes. Students also must present letters from their high school principal and parents providing permission to participate in the program.
