Communications, Justice Administration degrees available this fall
New bachelor’s degrees in communications and justice administration have received final approval and will be offered this fall at Rogers State University.
The new degrees include a bachelor of arts in communications with options in corporate communications and radio-television and a bachelor of science in justice administration with an optional emphasis in law enforcement.
The degrees received final approval from the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, the accrediting organization for RSU.
“These two new bachelor’s degree programs answer the expressed needs of our students as well as regional employers,” RSU President Joe Wiley said. “Rogers State University is committed to expanding higher education options for the residents of northeastern Oklahoma.”
The degrees also have been approved by the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents, the governing board for RSU, and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.
The bachelor’s degree in communications with an option in radio-television will prepare students for careers in broadcasting. Possible career paths for this degree include on-air news reporter, producer, camera operator, technical engineer, radio personality and sales and promotions. The degree will allow RSU to further utilize its on-campus broadcasting facilities, which include full-powered television and radio stations. RSU is the only public university in Oklahoma to operate its own full-power public television station, and RSU Radio (KRSC FM 91.3) is the only alternative college radio station on a campus in Oklahoma.
The bachelor’s degree in communications with an option in corporate communications stresses competence in oral and written communication. The degree will prepare students for careers in marketing, advertising, public relations, sales or promotions in corporations, non-profit associations, government agencies, advertising agencies, hospitals and medical centers, educational institutions and other types of organizations.
The bachelor’s degree in justice administration will provide students with a broad understanding of the justice system, beginning with law enforcement, extending through the nation’s court systems and culminating with the correction and treatment of offenders. The degree will prepare students for a wide variety of careers including law enforcement administrator, detective/investigator, probation and parole supervisor, government regulator, corporate security specialist, legal administrator and public policy analyst. The degree offers an optional emphasis in law enforcement for students who are interested in pursuing careers in police work.
RSU also offers bachelor’s degrees in applied technology; biology with options in environmental conservation and medical/molecular; business administration with options in accounting and management; business information technology with options in computer network administration and software development/multimedia; liberal arts; and social science with options in history/political science and psychology/sociology.
