Beginning Monday, July 13, and continuing for the next two weeks, Rogers State University Public Television will be performing maintenance on its main broadcast tower. There may be some interruptions to programming as the transmitter is powered down so crews can safely climb the tower and work.
Down times will be kept to a minimum while crews repaint the 850-foot tower and climb to the top to inspect and repaint the antenna, said Dan Schiedel, general manager for RSU Public TV.
“With workers that close to the antenna, it is imperative that we reduce or shut down power because of the danger of radio frequency burns,” Schiedel said. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our viewers.”
Regular tower maintenance is required by the Federal Aviation Administration and occurs every three to five years.
The station provides educational, cultural and general interest programming to an audience of 1.2 million viewers in northeastern Oklahoma. RSU Public TV broadcasts 24 hours a day on digital channel 35.1 and 35.2, Tulsa and Claremore cable channel 19, Cable Channel 4 in Bartlesville and satellite channel 35 across northeastern Oklahoma.
