RSU Public TV is producing a series of one-minute videos that will honor some of Oklahoma’s many distinguished veterans who continue to make a difference in their communities.
Entitled “Oklahoma Heroes,” the series of promotional videos will recognize those who put their lives on the line to protect our nation’s freedoms. These 60-second videos will air between programming on RSU Public TV starting on April 1, and the station also will feature the videos via its station’s social media outlets.
RSU Public TV General Manager Royal Aills said the videos honors those who selflessly served our country through active service, but also worked to improve their communities once they returned home.
“Not only were these men and women willing to sacrifice their own lives, but when they returned home, that honor continued to be on display as they gave back to their communities in a positive way,” Aills said.
He said the criteria for veterans to be considered for the profile would be any Oklahoman veteran, active or reserve, who has made a significant contribution to their communities through public service as a volunteer or professional.
There will be a total of twelve promotional shorts developed by the station with each spot broadcast for 30 days during the coming year. By sharing these videos both via the station broadcast and its social media channels, station officials hope viewers will share these stories with families and friends through their Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram pages to help share these veterans’ positive messages.
A prototype of the series has been created that tells the story of Major Ed Pulido, an Edmond resident who medically retired from the U.S. Army in 2005 after losing his left leg during a roadside bomb explosion. Upon returning home, Pulido helped create the Folds of Honor Foundation to help provide scholarships to spouses and children of America’s fallen and wounded soldiers.
