RSU Public Television to Present 2008 Candidate Forum

Rogers State University Public Television is working with the Claremore Chamber and the Rogers County Young Professionals to broadcast a forum designed to inform Rogers County voters before Election Day.

Candidates for District 2 County Commissioner, Rogers County Sherriff, Rogers County Clerk and District 9 State Representative will participate in the “2008 Claremore Chamber and Rogers County Young Professional Forum” which was taped before a live audience Thursday, Oct. 23 at the Claremore Community Center.

The hour-long program will air on RSU Public TV at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29 and 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2.

Candidates participating in the forum include; incumbent Mike Helm and Jack Barnes for County Commissioner District 2; Cole Butler and Scott Walton for Rogers County Sherriff; incumbent Peggy Armstrong and Rebecca Lowe Muratet for Rogers County Clerk and incumbent Rep. Tad Jones and Bill Snyder for State Representative for District 9.

The candidates will be questioned by Kyle Olson, an RSU broadcast student and Joy Hampton, a journalist from the Claremore Daily Progress. The forum is moderated by Dan Schiedel, RSU Public TV general manager.

“Many viewers do not have or will not have the chance to meet and greet many of these candidates, so this is a great way of finding out a little bit more about where the candidates stand on some very important issues,” Schiedel said. “This is one example of community partnerships we feel are important in developing local content that is of interest to our audiences throughout northeastern Oklahoma.”

Following the broadcast of the Candidate’s Forum, RSU Public Television will re-broadcast “The Truth about Political Ethics,” an original 60-minute program, produced by RSU Public Television, which compares the ethical standards of political leaders with the rest of American society.

“The Truth about Political Ethics” hosted by Dr. Jeff Gentry will air at 9 p.m. Oct. 29 and 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2.

RSU Public Television reaches approximately 1.2 million people within a 75-mile radius of the campus and is Oklahoma’s only full-powered television station operated by a public university.

The station broadcasts on UHF Channel 35 and is located on channel 35 on both satellite systems. RSU Public TV can also be found on various cable systems throughout northeastern Oklahoma. More information is available by visiting www.rsu.tv or calling (800) 823-7210.
