RSU Pryor to Hold Poetry Slam on Nov. 19

Students at Rogers State University are invited to participate in a poetry slam to be held at noon, Nov. 19, at the RSU Pryor campus.

Participating students will be asked to submit two original poems based upon themes from pre-selected works of art. Participants have the opportunity to view these works by contacting event organizers.

The two-round competition will be held in the RSU Pryor student commons. Refreshment will be provided.

The first round will consist of one poem from each contestant. The top five poets will move on to round two and read their second poem. First-, second- and third-place winners will be selected from the five finalists.

The winners will receive gift cards from Barnes & Noble. First place is a gift card of $100, second place receives $75, and third place receives a $50 gift card. All three winners also will have their poems printed in the January edition of The Hillpost.

“This should be a fun event for students from a variety of disciplines,” said Nancy Gill at RSU Pryor. “We’re looking forward to a room full of students enjoying the expression of creativity.”

To submit an entry, students enrolled in at least one RSU class should contact Lisa Ramsey or Nancy Gill in the RSU administrative office no later than 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 20.
