Dr. Doug Grenier, associate professor in Rogers State University’s Department of Mathematics and Science, will appear on the nationally syndicated game show, “Jeopardy.”
The show in which Grenier appears is scheduled to air at 4:30 p.m., Monday, April 26 on KTUL, Channel 8.
Because of a confidentiality agreement signed with the show, Grenier isn’t able to divulge details about the show’s outcome until after it airs. But he did say that his experience was one that he won’t forget.
Created in 1964 by Merv Griffin, Jeopardy is known for its “answer in the form of a question” format. The show is seen daily by an estimated 12 million viewers and is one of the most popular game shows in television history.
In May, Grenier answered his internal desire to pit his knowledge against other would-be participants when Jeopardy held a Tulsa audition last May. During the audition, Grenier participated in two rounds of testing and a mock run-through of the game. But he didn’t know if he had – or ever would – make the cut.
Eight months later, the show’s producers called to ask him to participate in a show taping during the first week of February.
Grenier said he didn’t have any unusual surprises from his experience, but came away impressed by the professionalism and enthusiasm of the show’s staff and crew.
“They really kept the atmosphere upbeat and reminded us, ‘Above all, remember that you are here to play a game.'”
Grenier received doctoral, master’s, and bachelor’s degrees in mathematics from the University of California at San Diego. His academic specialties include number theory, automorphic forms, harmonic analysis, cryptography and calculus reform. He also hosts “Dr. G’s College Retro Show” from noon to 3 p.m. each Wednesday on RSU’s campus radio station, RSU Radio (KRSC, 91.3 FM).
