RSU Leadership Program Can Sharpen Business Skills

A strong workforce relies on well-trained supervisors with effective leadership and business skills.

Mid America Industrial Park employers and employees can find that training – with college credit – at the Rogers State University Pryor campus, which is conveniently located in the industrial park.

RSU Pryor’s Leadership Advancement Program is designed to help area workers prepare for supervisory positions and give local companies an opportunity to prepare their employees with more advanced business skills.

Now enrolling for spring, the LAP program includes four eight-week courses selected to help develop and hone essential business skills needed by supervisors.

The classes include microcomputer applications, introduction to business, speech, and introduction to accounting. Each eight-week courses will be offered in sequence so students take only one subject at a time. Students can complete the program in one year by taking two courses in the spring and two courses in the fall. All classes will be offered at the RSU Pryor campus, located at 2155 Highway 69A in the Mid America Industrial Park.

Each successfully completed class counts as three hours of college credit, and a record of completion will be presented to students who pass all four courses.

The program was developed last year in partnership with American Castings, a leading employer in the industrial park. The leadership program is now open to all area businesses and individuals interested in documenting their business competencies and earning college credit. Standard RSU tuition and fees will apply for each course.

Some companies, like American Castings, will cover the costs for their employees to take courses. Employees are encouraged to visit with their human resources office to see if their employer offers a tuition reimbursement program.

To sign up for the program, students must complete RSU’s application, submit a $20 application fee, provide a high school transcript or GED, and an ACT score should be on file. There is no minimum ACT score required to enroll in the Leadership Advancement Program, but RSU must have an ACT score on file to meet state requirements. RSU can assist in scheduling an ACT test or accessing study guides to prepare for the test.

Spring classes start January 11. For more information about the LAP program or other RSU course offerings, contact the RSU Pryor campus at 918-825-6117.
