RSU Innovation Center to Host Business Workshop in Claremore

Having a successful business is a dream held by millions of Americans, however, many businesses fail because of financial problems.

The Innovation Center at Rogers State University in Claremore wants to help entrepreneurs and business owners succeed, and offers several workshops each semester to give business owners the tools to make their dreams come true.

The first workshop, “Financial Statements 101: Understanding the Basics,” is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, at the RSU Innovation Center on the Claremore Campus. The fee for the workshop is $15. This workshop is a prerequisite to a second workshop designed to improve profitability.  To reserve a space in the workshop or for more information call 343-7533.

Financial Statement 101 attendees will learn about the most common types of financial statements used in the business world, how financial statements are used for business analysis, and the components that make up each financial statement.

Understanding income statements and balance sheets is the key to good financial management, said Dr. Ray Brown, vice president for economic and community development. All business owners need to know what these figures mean and how to access them in order to know where their business stands financially, he added. These figures will also help business owners plan for their financial future.

A second workshop, “Using Financial Information to Increase Profitability,” is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, at the RSU Innovation Center on the Claremore Campus. Tom Franz, CPA, will conduct this workshop. Persons interested in the second workshop should enroll in Financial Statements 101 offered on Nov. 2.  The fee for the workshop is $15.
