RSU Honors Program Selecting Students for Fifth Class

Rogers State University is currently accepting applications for the university’s top academic program.

The RSU Honors Program, now in its fourth year, has been receiving applications from across Oklahoma and the program’s selection committee will be inviting students and their families to campus for Honors Day on Saturday, Feb. 28. The Honors Day event will provide an opportunity to interview program candidates, as well as allow students and their families the opportunity to tour campus and meet RSU students, faculty and staff, said Dr. Jim Ford, director of the RSU Honors Program.

The RSU Honors Program application deadline for priority consideration is Feb. 10, but qualified applicants can be considered after that date, Ford said.

Students selected for the RSU Honors Program will receive a scholarship package that fully covers tuition, fees, books, on-campus housing and a $500 annual stipend. Scholarships and awards from other sources may affect the total scholarship package, and all actual amounts will be determined in conjunction with a student’s federal aid package. There are currently 51 students benefitting from the RSU Honors Program.

“For students who want to get the most out of their college experience, the RSU Honors Program is a tremendous opportunity. It challenges the best and brightest students to do something more with their lives,” Ford said.

The honors program offers students unique benefits including priority enrollment and specialized honors classes with curriculum geared for students desiring additional academic challenges. Opportunities also exist for faculty/student joint research projects and other involvement within the student’s area of academic interest.

The honors program has a strong “service learning” emphasis that allows students to work closely with government agencies, social service agencies, or non-commercial entities to round out their academic studies. Such service learning projects are “real world” experience that directly relates to the student’s areas of academic or professional interests.

Enrollment in the RSU Honors Program is limited to incoming freshman with an ACT Composite score of at least 26 and a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5.
