RSU Hillcat Homecoming Set for Nov. 7-8

Get your Hillcat spirit ready! Rogers State University is gearing up for its second annual Hillcat Homecoming celebration to be held Friday, Nov. 7, and Saturday, Nov. 8.

The two-day event will include a golf tournament and a bonfire on Nov. 7 and will culminate with a tailgate party and men’s and women’s basketball games at the Claremore Expo Center on Nov. 8.

“The Hillcat Homecoming is not just a campus event, it is a community celebration. We hope many people from the Claremore area will join us in making this a great celebration,” said RSU President Dr. Larry Rice. “Our second basketball season promises to be exciting and homecoming is just one way we can support our Hillcat athletics program.”

RSU is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and Sooner Athletic Conference.

“Homecoming is always a great opportunity to unite athletics, faculty, staff and the student body under one banner,” said Wren Baker, RSU Athletic Director. “Last year’s inaugural homecoming was a huge success and we look forward to building on that tradition with this year’s event.”

Homecoming will kick off with an alumni golf tournament and lunch at 10 a.m. Nov. 7. The event will be held at Heritage Hills Golf Course and is an opportunity for golfers to meet many of the Hillcat athletes and support RSU athletics. Team and golf course hole sponsorships are still available. Sponsors to date include National Insurance Chad Ferguson, Community Home Health, Suburban Chevrolet, and AEP/PSO.

The public is invited to participate in the tournament.

On Friday evening, Hillcat pride will be on fire with the Hillcat Spirit Bonfire. Alumni, students and friends of RSU will begin to gather for this event at 7:30 p.m. Immediately following the bonfire will be a free concert by Tulsa’s hottest cover band, The Plumbers.

On Saturday, RSU will also host “Destination RSU: College Day 2008,” a free event for high school junior and seniors and their parents to learn about college life at RSU. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. For more information or to register for the event call (918) 343-7546.

“This year’s homecoming will be even better than last year,” said Dan Hardt, president of RSU’s Student Government Association. “Students are excited to show off their Hillcat pride and support men’s and women’s basketball.”

The Homecoming excitement will begin at noon on Saturday at the Claremore Expo Center with a tailgate party before the basketball games.

Admission to RSU basketball games is free for children under eight and RSU faculty, staff and students. General admission for games is $6 per person and reserved seating is $10 per person. The women’s basketball game begins at 2 p.m. and the men’s game begins at 4 p.m. at the Expo Center. Season tickets for Hillcat athletics may be purchased by calling (918) 343-07731.

Commemorative Hillcat Homecoming T-shirts are in stock at the RSU Bookstore so people can wear their Hillcat pride on game day. The $9.99 shirts will also be sold at the tailgate party.
