RSU Expands Friday Night Lights Tour

(Updated: 10-13-16)

Friday Night Lights PosterRogers State University is bringing back its popular spirit tour of area high school football games for a second year.

Representatives from RSU will be visiting area high school football games as part of its “Friday Night Lights: Hillcat Nation Tour” through October.

A spirit squad from the university will be on hand at each school with prizes to be handed out at the game, including t-shirt giveaways. In addition, game attendees will have the opportunity to meet local RSU students and learn about the university.

The Hillcat Nation Tour will kick off with visits to Claremore and Claremore Sequoyah high schools on Sept. 9.

In following weeks, RSU spirit squads are currently scheduled to visit the home football games at the following schools:

  • Locust Grove, Chouteau and Pryor on Sept. 16;
  • Verdigris and Catoosa on Sept. 23;
  • Adair and Salina on Sept. 30;
  • Collinsville and Skiatook on Oct. 7; and
  • Foyil and Oologah on Oct. 14.

The activities were coordinated by RSU Pryor Campus Director Sherry Alexander and RSU Vice President for Enrollment Management Heidi Hoskinson.

“We had a great time bringing the Friday Night Lights tour to Mayes County high schools last year, and our students are really excited to come back again this year,” said Alexander, who developed the concept for the program.

The Friday Night Lights events were so successful that the university has expanded it to reach more schools within its service area this year. The program’s expansion was made possible by a grant from the Grand River Dam Authority.

“RSU is honored to have strong community support throughout northeastern Oklahoma, and we wanted to show our appreciation by helping bring a little Hillcat spirit to area high school football games,” Hoskinson said.

Additional high schools may be added to the schedule as dates are confirmed. For up-to-date information on this and other events, visit www.rsu.edu/events.
