Rogers State University has announced a nine percent increase in the number of students enrolled in summer classes.
The increase marks the third semester the university has experienced a sizeable increase in enrollment.
“We are very pleased that so many students are continuing to take advantage of the quality academic programs at RSU,” said RSU President Dr. Joe Wiley.
Last fall, the number of freshmen at the university increased by 21 percent, compared to the previous fall. In the spring, 4.6 percent more students enrolled at the university compared with the previous spring.
This summer, a total of 964 students have enrolled in classes at RSU, a nine percent increase over the 884 students who enrolled last summer.
In addition, the full-time equivalency enrollment and the number of student credit hours have increased by 12 percent.
RSU officials expect enrollment to increase again this fall. Long-range projections anticipate a total enrollment of near 5,000 students in the next five years – a substantial rate of growth.
This fall, RSU will offer a fifth bachelor’s degree in biology, pending the approval of the Higher Education Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Also this fall, the university’s new student apartment complex will open, accommodating up to 248 students. Each apartment contains four private bedrooms and two full baths. The complex will feature high-speed Internet connections in every room, a swimming pool, computer lab, sand volleyball court and secure access for students.
