Partnership with OU Physicians Expands RSU Student Health Center Services

The Rogers State University Student Health Center has been able to expand its services to help keep students healthy thanks to a new partnership with the University of Oklahoma Physicians Clinic-Tulsa that started this spring.

The clinic now offers more comprehensive medical care to students, faculty and staff as a result of being able to leverage resources available through OU Physicians, which is the clinical practice of the OU College of Medicine and includes the state’s largest physician group, the clinical practice of the OU School of Community Medicine. The group provides more than 250,000 patient visits per year through a variety of specialties including neurology, preventive cardiology, psychiatry, nephrology, obstetrics/gynecology and others.

Prior to the OU Physicians partnership, the RSU campus clinic was more of an acute care center to manage short-term treatment for injury or illness. Now, the RSU Student Health Center has resources available to provide a much more comprehensive care assessment for each student, allowing the staff physician and staff to spend more time with the student, said Dr. Kristina Kline, the new RSU campus physician.

Rather than just treating the immediate injury or illness, the clinic can take a broader and deeper approach in addressing comprehensive health issues, she said.

The clinic now offers a wider variety of services which include but are not limited to:

  • Consultation
  • Assessment/treatment of minor injuries
  • Illnesses
  • First aid
  • Urine pregnancy tests
  • Urinalysis
  • Strep screening
  • Mono screening
  • Glucose Screening
  • Hearing and vision screening
  • Blood pressure screenings
  • Over the counter medications
  • Allergy shots
  • Physicals
  • Vaccinations
  • TB testing
  • Limited lab tests
  • Health education
  • Well Woman exam

With its wider-ranging offerings to students, the clinic has moved to an appointment-based system so that the physician to spend more time with the student. Walk-ins are still welcome.

Since the partnership has begun, the clinic has seen a significant increase in the number of students seeking clinic services. Lisa Martin, who serves as director of the RSU Student Health Center, said students have reacted favorably to the more extensive health information that arises from the more in-depth appointments.

“Dr. Kline takes the time to fully evaluate each student,” Martin said. “She seems to be very engaged in the students’ health.”

In addition to the expanded services offered, all medical charts have been updated from a paper system to an electronic system that is connected to all other OU Physicians Clinics.

The Student Health Center is located in Downs Hall, adjacent to the west side of the Health Sciences Building on the Claremore campus. You may also access the center through Room 164 of the Health Sciences Building.

Clinic hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
