RSU Bartlesville Represented in Homecoming Nominees for First Time
Rogers State University will soon open voting for its Homecoming court finalists and for the first time, students from the RSU Bartlesville campus will be among the nominees.
Christopher Bowles and Natalie May, both seniors who live in Bartlesville, were nominated for the Homecoming court by the Bartlesville chapter of Students for Social Responsibility.
"I've always wanted to be Homecoming King," Bowles said upon accepting his nomination.
Bowles is a psychology major and plans to seek his master's degree and eventually his Ph.D. He works full time at Walmart, which has been his employer since 2007.
"My ultimate goal is to work with the Veteran's Administration to help military members and their families," he said.
In his spare time, he works with people who speak English as a second language.
"Helping people with their English speaking skills improves their understanding of our world," he said.
May, who also majors in psychology, is the president of Students for Social Responsibility, is the deputy speaker for RSU's Student Government House of Representatives and is a single mother.
"I feel like all those actors who say 'it's just nice to be nominated' at the Emmy's or other award shows, but it really is neat to just be nominated," she said.
May works part time at RSU Bartlesville as a writing tutor.
She plans to attend OU Tulsa in fall 2013 to complete her master's degree in social work. She wants to work with juvenile delinquents and help guide them into making better decisions and become contributing members of society.
"I stay pretty busy, but I enjoy it," She said.
RSU students can vote online for their favorite Homecoming court nominees from October 15-17 at www.rsu.edu/homecoming.
Six finalists, three male and three female, will be selected to advance to the interview portion of the competition. The 2012 RSU Homecoming Coronation will be held at halftime of the Men's Homecoming basketball game, which tips off at 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, at the Claremore Expo Center.
