Softball Hillcats Hammer Oklahoma Christian

Rogers State cranked out 14 runs on 22 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Oklahoma Christian in Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

Kelli Dunagan and Stephanie Eggers combined to throw a two-hit shutout in Game 1 as the Hillcats cruised to an 8-0 victory. Dunagan allowed two walks and no hits over the first four innings. Eggers finished the job by giving up just two hits while striking out five in the final three frames. Megan Wood led the hit parade with three hits and two RBI. Denise Garcia, Randi Tyler, Somer Dykes and Dunagan had two hits a piece for RSU. The Hillcats took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning and scored in every inning except the sixth. Dunagan (13-4) picked up the win for RSU.

It took Oklahoma Christian nine innings to score its first run of the day, but the Lady Eagles held a 3-1 advantage after the third inning of Game 2. RSU answered right back as Jones led off the fourth with a double to left field and scored on a single by Dykes. Ward followed with an RBI triple and the Hillcats regained the lead for good on an RBI groundout by Wood. RSU added single runs in the fifth and sixth and Eggers held OC scoreless over the final four innings. Eggers (8-4) earned the win in relief.

Coach Dawn Reed’s club improved to 21-8 with the series sweep and will gear up for a busy weekend ahead. RSU will host Oklahoma Baptist in a doubleheader on Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. The Hillcats will welcome No. 5 St. Gregory’s, No. 15 Evangel University and Kansas Wesleyan to Claremore on Friday and Saturday for the RSU Classic at the Hillcat Complex.
