RSU Students Receive Awards in Annual Writing Contest
Several students have received awards as part of the annual Writing Contest held by the Department of Communications and Fine Arts at Rogers State University.
Each year, the department accepts entries from RSU students in several categories, including best composition, best essay and best poetry.
The award recipients include:
Debbie Hendryx of Skiatook, first place in best composition for "Knowledge: The Unknown." She is a liberal arts major at RSU, where she has received an academic excellence scholarship and serves as an English tutor.
Holly Hargrave of Claremore, second place in best composition for "Put You in Doubt If You Think That You're Special." She is the daughter of Barbara Hargrave and is a 2003 graduate of Claremore High School. She is majoring in justice administration at RSU and is a member of Phi Theta Kappa.
Kodi Weatherholtz of Claremore, honorable mention in the best composition category for "Change." He is the son of Lori Weatherholtz and will be a 2005 graduate of Sequoyah High School. He took classes at RSU while a senior at Sequoyah. He plans to major in English in college.
Robyn Barbour of Claremore, first place in the essay category for "The Heartland Project." She is a liberal arts major at RSU. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa in 1986. She is an accredited piano instructor and owner of Barbour Piano.
Laura Smith of Claremore, second place in poetry for "Black Rogue." She is the daughter of Jim and Judy Smith and a liberal arts major at RSU.
