RSU Exhibition To Showcase Faculty Art

The fall semester officially arrives when students carry boxes of their belongings into the residence hall, enrollment counselors begin to show signs of exhaustion and faculty members exhibit their art at Rogers State University.

At the beginning of each fall semester, full-time and adjunct faculty members who teach courses in art display their work in the Foundations Gallery in Baird Hall on the RSU campus in Claremore.

"The faculty art exhibition has become an annual rite of passage in the fall," said Gary Moeller, longtime professor of art at RSU.

In some cases, the artwork represents what a faculty member did during his or her summer vacation. Other pieces are the culmination of months or years of attention. Still others hail from the past in the early days of an artist's career.

This fall's Faculty Art Exhibition runs from Thursday, Aug. 26, through Friday, Sept. 10, in the gallery. An opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26. Tours of the new RSU Three-Dimensional Art Center also will be provided. The public is invited to attend.

The exhibition will feature a variety of media, including sculpture, photography, computer graphics, drawing, painting and mixed media work.

This year's participants include Bryce Brimmer, award-winning sculptor; Dave Carman, art director at the Tulsa World and RSU graphic arts instructor; Don Emrick, who teaches black and white photography at RSU; Alison Greuel Rossi, who was educated in Italy and specializes in Renaissance and Baroque art; Mary Jane Porter, whose multi-media works can be seen in galleries and corporate offices across the state; and Gary Moeller, RSU's senior faculty member in the arts who specializes in drawing and painting.

Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, call (918) 343-7740.
