Prof To Review Franken's ‘Fair, Balanced' Take On Media
Dr. Kenneth Hicks, assistant professor in Rogers State University's Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences, will review the book, "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look At The Right" on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at the RSU Library.
The review, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the library's Chautauqua Room. The event is part of the RSU Library's Literary Review Series.
Franken, a former comedy writer and performer for "Saturday Night Live," uses his humor to confront "the myth of liberal bias" in the media and specifically targets conservative news organizations and commentators including Ann Coulter, Fox News' Roger Ailes, Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity, and members of the Bush administration. The book drew the national spotlight in August when Fox News sued Franken to block the distribution of the book saying its title infringed on their trademark of the expression "fair and balanced," but the company later dropped the suit.
The book will be reviewed by Hicks, who received doctoral and master's degrees in government and international studies from the University of South Carolina and a bachelor's degree in political science from the State University of West Georgia. His teaching and research interests include political theory, American politics, American foreign policy and international relations. He has written articles on political theory for scholarly journals and has participated in several academic and professional conferences.
