RSU To Extend Holiday Break To Save Utilities Cost

Rogers State University will extend its holiday break by two days to save the cost of utilities.

RSU will remain closed on Thursday and Friday, Jan 2-3, to save the cost of providing light and heat in school buildings, adding two days to the holiday break of Dec. 23 through Jan. 1.

"In light of the state budget situation, adding two days to the holiday break will provide savings for the university without interrupting classes or student services," said RSU President Dr. Joe Wiley.

The enrollment center will be closed Dec. 23 through Jan 3. However, students may enroll for spring classes through Dec. 20. Enrollment will resume on Jan. 6. Classes will begin on Jan. 13.

The RSU Bookstore and Kiddie Kollege also will be closed during the period.

RSU employees will be provided with one extra day off and will be required to take one day of accrued vacation to accommodate the holiday extension.

"We expect the cost savings to outweigh any loss of productivity during the two days," Wiley added.

This year, state appropriations to RSU have been reduced by $737,441 and more reductions are possible in 2003.
