RSU Students Spend Summer On the Air

Broadcasting students complete summer internships at Tulsa radio and television stations

Several broadcasting students at Rogers State University conducted on-air interviews, edited and produced news stories, and ran teleprompters as part of summer internships at Tulsa television and radio stations.

Jessica Cravens, an RSU broadcasting student from Jenks, completed an internship in the FOX 23 news department where she worked as a production assistant. She wrote and edited several news stories that appeared on the station's evening newscast. She also conducted her first professional interview while covering a story on an Oklahoma bed and breakfast inn. She also ran the teleprompter for the evening newscast and assisted reporters in the field covering stories. She plans to be a television news reporter after completing her broadcasting degree at RSU.

She is a graduate of Union High School in Tulsa and is the daughter of Russell and Barbara Bass of Broken Arrow. She is a member of RSU's student chapter of the Oklahoma Broadcasting Education Association.

Joe Lynn, an RSU broadcasting student from Bartlesville, also worked as a production assistant during his internship in the FOX 23 news department. His major responsibility was the filing and approval of syndication program contacts. He also corrected any mistakes that may appear with the scheduling of FOX 23 syndication programming. He also edited several news stories. He concluded his internship by spending a week in the master control room, observing the many tasks involved in producing an evening newscast. He plans to work in film production after completing his RSU broadcasting degree.

Mayme Burns, an RSU broadcasting student from Claremore, interned at KHTT FM 106.9 "K-HITS" in Tulsa. She scheduled and filed music, produced radio program material, operated audio equipment and helped produce radio commercials. She worked closely with Todd Tucker, afternoon drive disc jockey. Burns is also a student announcer at RSU Radio FM 91.3. She plans to work in radio after receiving her RSU broadcasting degree.
