Several area high school art students received awards and scholarships at the annual
High School Portfolio Art Competition and Exhibition at Rogers State University.
Students from high schools across northeast Oklahoma entered the competition and exhibition, which will run through March 5 at Foundations Gallery, located in Baird Hall on the RSU campus in Claremore.
Faculty members in the RSU Department of Communication and Fine Arts selected the recipients of several awards, which were accompanied by scholarships to attend RSU in the fall.
Ashley Etter, a senior at Skiatook High School, received the Best of Show Award and a scholarship to attend RSU. She is the daughter of David and Rebecca Etter of Skiatook. At Skiatook High School, she is a member of Student Council, National Honor Society and the Drama Club. She has been listed on the honor roll, is a member of Who’s Who Among American High School Students and is a volunteer with the American Red Cross. She plans to major in art at RSU.
Also receiving awards and scholarships were Krystle Adkins and Cerik Martin of Chelsea, Hanna Chamberlain of Locust Grove and Kenny Wilmath of Inola.
Adkins is a senior at Chelsea High School, where she was involved in the Talent Search. She is the daughter of Stephen and Rhonda Hull of Chelsea. She plans to major in social and behavioral sciences at RSU.
Martin also is a senior at Chelsea High School, where he is a member of National Honor Society, Quiz Bowl and Spanish Club. He is the son of Cecil and Letha Martin of Chelsea.
Chamberlain is a senior at Locust Grove High School. She is the daughter of Nathan and Cindy Chamberlain of Locust Grove. She plans to major in early childhood education at RSU.
Wilmath is a senior at Inola High School. He is the son of Kenneth Wilmath of Catoosa. He plans to major in graphic art at RSU.
Guest artist in the exhibition is Jamie Hughes, who is in the ninth grade at Claremore High School. She is the daughter of Jim Hughes of Claremore and Terri Hughes of St. George, Utah. Her work is on display in Foundations Gallery.
The exhibition includes drawings, paintings, and sculptures by high school students from across northeast Oklahoma.
Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
