RSU Public Television and Circle Cinema announce a full slate of events celebrating the 25th anniversary of the filming of the legendary cult classic “UHF” in Tulsa. Additional partners for the celebration include Tulsa City-County Library, Steve’s Sundry, HarperCollins, DCF Concerts and the Art Directors Club of Tulsa. The celebration runs from September 13-October 19. Events include:
- A special screening of UHF followed by a Q&A session with star and co-writer “Weird Al” Yankovic, director and co-writer Jay Levey and producer Gray Frederickson on Tuesday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Tulsa’s historic Circle Cinema, 10 S. Lewis Ave.
- Book signing with Weird Al at Circle Cinema on September 24 at 4:00 p.m. (prior to the movie screening) for his new children’s book “My New Teacher and Me!,” the sequel to his first book, the New York Times No. 4 best seller “When I Grow Up.” Both books are published by HarperCollins. The signing is presented in association with the Tulsa City-County Library and Steve’s Sundry.
- A statewide “UHF”-themed art exhibit and poster contest to be held at Circle Cinema from September 13 – October 20. Poster entries will be auctioned on October 18 at the Circle Cinema with proceeds benefitting RSU Public TV and Circle Cinema. The poster contest is presented in association with the Art Directors Club of Tulsa. For rules and entry forms go to rsu.tv.
- A READ poster campaign by the Tulsa City-County Library featuring Weird Al and the character Conan the Librarian from “UHF.”
- Two special pledge drive broadcasts on RSU Public TV:
- Saturday, October 5: featuring “UHF;” local Tulsa VIPs and cast members from the movie will be live in-studio answering phones and interviewed. Premiums will include UHF Tulsa location tours.
- Sunday, October 6: featuring “Weird Al” Yankovic Live: The Alpocalypse Tour, which first premiered on Comedy Central in late 2011.
- “Weird Al” Yankovic and his band Live In Concert – The Alpocalypse Tour at the Brady Theatre; October 19. For tickets or more information on the concert, visit www.bradytheater.com.
