Check this out – a great opportunity.

Students who attend and check in with me will get 50 points extra credit.

Not only that, we can arrange to meet for dinner in Stillwater beforehand.

Map (from RSU)

Note: This map takes you to Albertson's grocery store at 421 N Main because the map resource did not recognize the address.  The restauarant is in the same retail complex as the store, but is further north on Main.  The map takes you along the Cimarron Turnpike.  You can also take Highway 51 to Stillwater.  If you do that, the highway becomes 6th Street.  You turn north onto Main, and travel just a few blocks.

Dr. Michael Ruse to Lecture at OSU

Dr. Michael Ruse, world-renowned Historian and Philosopher of Science, will present a lecture at the Wes Watkins Center, on Tuesday, Feb 6th, 7:00 p.m. (followed by a book signing).  Dr. Ruse has authored and edited dozens of books on the history and philosophy of Darwinian Evolution, and has participated in innumerable conferences and roundtable discussions on related topics.  He has also been actively involved in the Creationist/Evolutionist Debates, writing and editing several books on this particular issue, as well as participating as a witness in the Arkansas textbook trial of the early 1980ıs.

His talk is entitled ³The Evolution/Creation Struggle: An American Story², and represents a rather different view of the proper relation between science and religion from that of Richard Dawkinsı recent The God Illusion.  Ruse supports a strict separation between the concerns of legitimate empirical science and any metaphysical position, so that science simply cannot adjudicate metaphysical issues (but can, of course, legitimately respond when religiosity impinges on physical reality). In any event, the talk promises to be very exciting.  Please try to attend!

The talk is sponsored by the Presidentıs Office, and the Philosophy and Zoology Departments at OSU.
