INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE FIRST EXAM
Posted September 24 at 10:50 A.M.
In General
The first exam occurs on October 1. It covers all the material (assigned readings and class presentations) in Weeks 1-6. It is worth 100 points out of 800 in the class.
The exam has two parts. The first part is a take-home essay due at 8 A.M. on Monday October 1. Detailed instructions are available on the course website. The essay is worth 50 points. The deadline is the deadline: late work won’t receive credit. The second part is an in-class test, given in class on Monday October 1. It is worth 50 points. Instructions have been posted for this part of the exam. Plan to take it as scheduled. Make-up exams are normally unavailable in this class.
Please reads the instructions carefully and let me know about any questions or concerns you may have. We can discuss your questions or concerns in class or during my office hours. Please feel free also to e-mail me. But please note: I may be unavailable for normal office hours on Thursday September 27 because I have to attend a conference in Tulsa.
About the Exam
We have covered a lot of material. The instructions for the in-class test should, however, help you to focus your effort effectively. The exam will be flexible. It is designed to help you show what you know. Perfection is not expected. Do as much as you can, as well as you can.
You may bring notes to the in-class test: one sheet of 8.5X11 paper with as much information as you want, front and back. No other notes or memory-assist devices of any kind whatsoever are permitted, however. Also: no books!
