 Updated Attendance Policy

Posted October 26, 2009

This class has a strict attendance policy.  Regular attendance is vital because the action is in the class (there are no lecture notes or Power Points to look at if you aren’t there). However, there has been an unusual amount of illness this semester, affecting a lot of students, so I have decided to modify the policy.  You can miss up to six classes without a grade penalty, and the penalty for missed classes has been lowered.

Revised Attendance Policy

Attendance is the responsibility of the student and is required.  Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class period.  To be counted present you must arrive on time and remain for the entire class period. After six (6) absences all subsequent absences will reduce your course point-total by five (5) points each. A student who misses more than two consecutive classes may, at the discretion of the instructor, receive a failing grade for the entire course.  Missed exams normally cannot be made up.

 Original  Attendance Policy

Attendance is the responsibility of the student and is required.  Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class period.  To be counted present you must arrive on time and remain for the entire class period. After three absences all subsequent absences will reduce your course point-total by 10 points each. However, students who miss a group project meeting (these are scheduled for November 5 and 10) will lose 20 points for each meeting. A student who misses more than two consecutive classes may, at the discretion of the instructor, receive a failing grade for the entire course.  Missed exams normally cannot be made up.
