Objective of class:
Each
student will develop a general understanding of social ethics: Too, every
student will better understand how ethical and religious values influence our
personal, social, legal and political decisions.

final grade will be based on the following formula:
Weekly
assignments (up to 3 points
per assignment)

Perfect

Weekly assignments: A short paper (1/2-1 1/2 page) stating a current event and relating it to the aspects of ethics being covered that week will be due every Wednesday. Each Monday you will be given a subject area (personal, religious, political, legal, business...) by me. You will then identify a specific news event and apply ideas being covered that week.
Perfect
attendance: Students
not missing any class will earn 5
points, missing one class = 4 points, missing two classes = 3
points, missing three classes = 2 points, missing four classes = 1
point, missing 5 or more classes = 0 points.
Mid-term
exam: The
mid-term will be essay format and will give you an opportunity to demonstrate
you understanding of the readings and class discussions.
Comprehensive
paper: A
paper, 10-15 pages in length, will be due by November 20th. Each student should
contact me to discuss a specific topic that relates to ethics by September 23rd.
Note quality and quantity are both important. A quality 10 page paper would be
in the "C"
range, a quality 15 page paper would be in the "A" range.
In class presentation will count 25% of the total score.
Final exam:
During exam
week, students will be given a three hour period to basically tie readings,
written assignments, discussions, and papers together by responding to one essay
question out of three that will be given.

Academic Misconduct
"Students
