Cathy Coomer is the
General Manager of KRSC-FM 91.3 Real College Radio in addition to her
duties as an Assistant Professor in the Communications department.
Cathy's main discipline is in Radio and TV production, Writing, Shooting
and Editing but also teaches a number of other communications courses
including Media Sales & Advertising and TV/Radio
Announcing. Before coming to RSU to help initiate the BA program,
she taught in the department of Communications at Pittsburg (Kan.) State
University, where she served as Assistant Professor and Director of
Broadcasting. She has also worked in the private sector as an independent producer/promoter for events, seminars and workshops as well as producing an independent film in Southeast Kansas and Northeast Oklahoma. Coomer has worked as a News Producer, Reporter, Public Service Director, and Programming Manager for two NBC and CBS commercial television affiliates in Kansas and Missouri. She received an M.A. degree in Communications with a Public Relations emphasis as well as a B.A. degree in Communications, both from Pittsburg State University. She is the Advisor of the Student Broadcasting Association at RSU and after serving as the Chair of the Oklahoma Broadcast Education Association Student Competition for two years, she now reigns as the Secretary/Treasurer of the OBEA. Coomer was also the 2009 Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters recipient of the Lisa John Fellowship, named after a former broadcaster. During the summer, she worked for four weeks with Cox Radio Inc. in Tulsa focusing on sales and news for KRMG AM & FM; promotions, marketing and programming for K95.5, MIX 96 and STAR 103.3. This experience gave her a chance to update many of her own skills as well those in the classroom while also developing a closer working relationship with radio broadcasters in the market. |
