
EMPLOYMENTAdministrative & Staff PositionsUpward Bound The individuals selected for this position must show clear evidence of the ability to deal effectively with complicated tasks related to providing a wide variety of activities and services typical for a comprehensive educational and assessment program for disadvantaged individuals from “high risk” backgrounds. Applicants must be effective problem solvers and have the ability to pay attention to detail while providing a broad range of services designed to stimulate engagement of participants through educational, social, and recreational activities. Under the supervision of the Upward Bound Assistant Program Director, House Parent and the Executive Director, TRiO the Peer Mentors will be responsible for accurate documentation of services provided to participants, providing strong role modeling and leadership for an ethnically diverse group served by this program. The Peer Mentors will reside on the RSU campus from 3 June through 19 July 2010 to supervise and interact with program participants, continue duties during the six-day trip, and attend all in-service and staff meetings associated with the Upward Bound summer component. Room and board are provided in addition to salary. The Peer Mentor positions are temporary, full-time, grant funded positions with employment contingent upon availability of funds and satisfactory job performance. Qualifications for this position include: Twenty-one years of age or older. Completed at least one year of post secondary education and working toward a Bachelor’s Degree. Excellent role model to high-school-age students. Background check is required and will be conducted through RSU Campus Police. Preferred qualifications include: Completed an Associate’s Degree or equivalency with the major area of study in education, social work, or physical education. Previous TRIO experience and/or experience working with disadvantaged, “at risk” students from culturally diverse backgrounds, communities, and socio-economic groups.
