Enrollment Counselor Position

The Enrollment Counselor will serve students, faculty, deans and other academic administrators and offices by monitoring all activities pertaining to transcripts, student records, registration, and class scheduling.  Must understand department’s role in accomplishing the University’s mission. Complies and submits reports as required by Registrar.  Must comply with all State, University and Federal policies.  Candidate must have the must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from administration, students and the general public.  Knowledge of software packages and quick study on mainframe access. Must have excellent communication, telephone, and people skills with the ability to be flexible.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma and experience in similar position required.
Preferred Qualifications: Associate Degree. 


Admission Assistant

Processes applications, assists students, manages front desk, phones, student workers, office supplies and budget. Associates Degree or experience in similar position preferred.


Academic Coordinator, Upward Bound

The University is accepting applications for the position of Academic Coordinator for the TRiO Department’s Upward Bound Program. Under the direction of the Excutive Director, TRiO and the Assistant Program Director, Upward Bound. The Academic Coordinator will effectively teach Upward Bound (UB) program participants in various areas of study to ensure program activities are in accordance with grant contract and RSU guidelines.  The Upward Bound Program is designed to motivate and prepare high school students from diverse backgrounds, communities, and socio-economic groups for college admissions and successful higher education experiences.

The individual selected for this position must show clear evidence of the ability to deal effectively with complicated tasks related to providing a wide variety of activities and services typical of comprehensive educational and residential summer programs for disadvantaged individuals. Applicants must be effective problem solvers and have the ability to pay attention to detail while providing a broad range of services designed to ensure the academic and personal success of program participants. 

The Academic Coordinator will be responsible for providing group and individual instruction, designing or administering assessment tools for monitoring academic achievement and success, maintaining student records, both electronically and physically.  The Academic Coordinator will be required to attend all departmental and professional development functions, fully participate in the six-week summer residential component, and perform other duties as assigned.  Some evening and weekend work will be required, as will intra- and inter-state travel.

The Academic Coordinator position is a twelve-month, full-time, grant funded position with continued employment contingent upon availability of funds and satisfactory job performance.  Qualifications for this position include a Bachelor’s Degree with major in Mathematics, Science, English or related areas.  State teacher certification or extensive instruction experience at the college level is preferred. Experience with students of various backgrounds and from various communities is also required.  Position requires flexible hours and variable work days and locations.  Preferred qualifications include:   A Master’s Degree, Five years experience in Education (Science, Math or English), or in related areas and/or five years experience with students of various backgrounds and from various communities.

Part-Time Instructor, Bit by Bit Therapeutic Riding Center

Position Summary: Under general supervision of Director of Bit by Bit, performs instruction of therapeutic riding. Participate as needed, in office duties such as procurement of supplies, interfacing with prospective students and caregivers.

Primary Duties: Instruct evening classes for therapeutic riders to include but limited to the supervision and recruitment of volunteer caregivers. The Prospective applicant is available for substitute instruction during the week when the need arises.

Secondary Duties: Assist in horse care and maintenance as needed.

Minimum Qualifications: Certification as an instructor of therapeutic riding by a national accrediting agency such as NARHA. Extensive experience in horsemanship and equine activities required. Prior experience in therapeutic riding preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Must be proficient in teaching individuals with special needs and disabilities; must be proficient in public relations. Instructor must be familiar with safety issues associated with horses and therapeutic riding and able to maintain safety in the facility. Successful candidate must understand and use proper procedures for maintaining accurate records of student’s progress, lesson plans and objectives, and volunteer activities. Instructor must maintain confidentiality of student and volunteer information. The instructor should also have an interest and ability to assist with fundraising activities.

Report to: Director of Bit by Bit and the Equestrian Center

Hours: Primarily Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evening from 4:30-8:30 P.M. but may include other hours if instructor is available.


Equestrian Center Assistant

Position Summary: Under general supervision of Director of Bit by Bit, perform administrative duties, assist with operations of Bit by Bit Therapeutic Riding Program and Equestrian Center, and assist in fund raising, scheduling and coordinating events.

Primary Duties: Provide support to the Director of the Bit by Bit Therapeutic Horse Riding Program and other personnel based at the Equestrian Center.  Other duties include maintain various contracts for boarding, camper rentals and use of the facilities and revenue generated.  Creation of purchase orders, maintain budget records, monitor office expenditures, receive and provide hospitality to visitors, Answer incoming phone calls and provide information relating to Equestrian Center inquiries, draft routine correspondence, develop and maintain filing systems, handle and route incoming/outgoing correspondence, and aid in marketing the Equestrian Center.  Assist with operation of Bit by Bit including direct support of therapeutic riding classes, with preparation and care of therapeutic riding horses, and with barn maintenance.  Assist with any special events, including scheduling of student workers; communicate with staff of the university through email, telephone, and in writing; and any other duties assigned by the Director of the Bit by Bit Program.

Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree or equivalent in business and experience in equine facility operation.  Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Proficient in MS Office, Excel and Word.

Preferred Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in business and instructor certification from North American Riding for the Handicapped Association or other regional accrediting agency.

Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of administrative support practices.  Knowledge of personal computers, software packages, and office equipment.  Proficient in MS Office including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Power Point.  Knowledge of generally accepted office practices and effective communication skills.  Ability to work independently and interpret information clearly.    Ability to interact effectively with the general public, volunteers, parents, and special needs children and adults.  Ability to provide effective written and verbal communication.  Ability to prioritize work procedures and phone messages.  Ability to independently initiate and complete work assignments.  Ability to learn and apply software applications necessary for job functions.  Knowledge of equine and equine facility operations.  Physically capable of maneuvering up to 60 lb. loads by hand and operation of vehicles and tractors.

Position:  Clerical, Full-time, 12 month, FLSA Non-Exempt.          


Equine Coordinator

Potition Summary: Under the general supervision of the Director of the Bit by Bit Therapeutic Riding Program, the Equine Coordinator assists with operation of the equestrian facility, conditions/trains Bit by Bit horses, instructs Bit by Bit classes, and provides care for horses and livestock used in the Bit-by-Bit Therapeutic Riding Program and in the rodeo program.

Primary Duties:

  • Perform instructor’s duties in the Bit by Bit Therapeutic Riding Program
  • Teach riding classes and assist other instructors as needed
  • Assist in the evaluation and selection of program horses
  • Assist in recruiting/training of volunteers
  • Condition and train program horses for Bit by Bit
  • Supervise and maintain the daily care of horses to include but not be limited to: feeding, medications, farrier care, veterinarian care and equine health records
  • Supervise student workers involved with equine care such as stall maintenance and grooming
  • Supervise preparation of horses for scheduled therapeutic riding classes
  • Supervise, manage and schedule use of RSU’s Equestrian Center facilities
  • Supervise care for livestock used in rodeo practice and special events
  • Collaborate/cooperate with Caretaker and Rodeo coach to maintain attractive, well-maintained facility.
  • Maintain facility and report needed repairs of Equestrian Center facilities and/or equipment to Director and Caretaker

Secondary Duties: Other duties assigned.

Minimum Qualification: Certification as Instructor by the North American Riding for Handicapped Association or other nationally recognized entity for therapeutic riding.  Prior teaching experience; Associate’s degree in equine science, veterinary technology or related field; documented training in horsemanship, equine experience, and equestrian management. 

Preferred Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in equine science, veterinary technology, education, health or related field.  Extensive experience in horsemanship, equine activities, and horse care. Documented experience working as a volunteer in therapeutic riding.

Knowledge and Skills: Must be proficient in public relations. Must enjoy working with individuals with special needs and disabilities. Must possess ability to keep accurate records for horses, livestock, students and volunteers. Must be a team player who exhibits flexibility, and maintains a positive attitude even when confronted with challenging conditions. Must be familiar with health information privacy regulations and demonstrate commitment to confidentiality. Ability to work effectively with those seeking information concerning Bit by Bit and Equestrian facility.  Ability and interest in participating in fundraising efforts. Ability to organize work procedures and schedules. Ability to initiate and complete work assignments. Must be flexible and willing to adapt to new challenges and opportunities.  Physically capable of maneuvering up to 60 lb. loads by hand and operation of vehicles and tractors.

Tutor-Part Time, Upward Bound – TRiO

Rogers State University Upward Bound TRiO program is looking for qualified personnel to provide academic and tutorial services at designated sites to student participants.

Supervise and tutor UB participants during study sessions.  Assess students’ academic progress and growth.  Complete documentation on each student for each study/tutor session.  Keep UB staff informed of academic, career, and personal issues brought to the tutors attention by the student. Assist students in collecting information for college admissions and success. 

Knowledge of core high school subjects with specific emphasis in mathematical areas. Ability to interact well and supervise high school age students. Ability to take on responsibility without supervision.  Ability to organize. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Associate’s Degree. Experience working with young adults, serving as a role model, and/or teaching. Certified educators holding endorsements English, Math, or Science.  Currently teaching at an UB Target School. OK teaching certificate.
