A Rogers State University student recently was awarded a national conference scholarship through the Association of Women in Communications.

Sarah Rogers-Dewberry, a communications – radio and television junior from Tulsa, won an AWC Matrix Foundation’s Barbara Ericksen Memorial Scholarship on Aug. 4.

The scholarship assists in sending AWC student members to the AWC National Conference, held this year on Oct. 9-10 in Kansas City, Missouri. The scholarship provides a travel stipend of up to $500, complimentary hotel accommodations and a full conference registration that includes most meals.

Rogers-Dewberry is a freelance sports journalist for SB Nation’s Welcome to Loud City, a blog covering the Oklahoma City Thunder. She has also covered Oklahoma high school sports for VYPE Oklahoma and the Tulsa World. Additionally, Rogers serves as editor of Tulsa Lifestyle Magazine, a monthly publication distributed to affluent neighborhoods in Tulsa.

In May, Rogers-Dewberry was awarded a $1,000 Rising Star Communicator Scholarship through the AWC for her professional experience and academic achievement in communications.

After attending the conference, Rogers-Dewberry will write an article or story summarizing her conference experience that will be featured on the AWC Matrix Foundation website.
