Graduation Checklist
Before Graduation
Complete all requirements for the degree. For a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 120 hours is required; for an associate degree, a minimum of 60 hours is required. Check with your advisor for more information. Earn a combined retention/graduation GPA of at least 2.0 in all coursework. No grade lower than “C” will be accepted in a major or minor or in courses transferred from an out-of-state institution.
- Apply for Graduation
- At the end of your 90th hour, apply for graduation
- Obtain the form from your advisor
- Degree Completion Plan
- After applying for graduation, complete a Degree Completion Plan with your advisor
- Prepare Resume
- Obtain permission to use professors, employers, etc. as references on your resume
- Schedule an appointment with Career Services (343-7864 or careerservices@rsu.edu) to polish your resume and hone your interview skills
- Apply for jobs online at www.collegecentral.com/rsu
- Attend the RSU Career & Graduate School Fair/Graduate Day (professional attire)
- With Honors Criteria
- Summa Cum Laude: 4.0
- Magna Cum Laude: 3.90-3.99
- Cum Laude: 3.80-3.89
- Order commencement regalia (cap, gown, etc)
- Order graduation announcements through the RSU Barnes and Noble Bookstore
- Request off work for awards ceremonies, nursing pinning, commencement, and other graduation events
- Check with the Office of the Registrar (343-7552) to see if you have any holds that will prevent you from receiving your diploma after graduation
- Financial Aid: All graduates who have a loan or a financial aid hold must complete a Financial Aid Exit Survey
- Attend departmental awards ceremonies
Graduation Day
- Attend Commencement Ceremonies
- Arrive no later than 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony. Line up by tassel color on the south side of the Expo. Download the Commencement Line-up Map and bring it with you.
- School of Business – Drab tassel
- School of Liberal Arts – White tassel
- School of Mathematics, Science, & Health Sciences – Gold tassel
- Attend the Commencement Reception on the Expo lawn on graduation day
