Linda Barron, program director for Bit by Bit Therapeutic Horseback Riding Program at Rogers State University, has announced her retirement.
RSU will host a reception in her honor from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19, at the Equestrian Center, which is located five miles south of Oologah and two miles north of Collinsville on U.S. Highway 169.
The reception is open to the public and current and previous Bit by Bit students and their families are encouraged to attend.
Barron is retiring after 10 years working with Bit by bit. Prior to her career at RSU, she worked as a special education teacher for more than 20 years in several area school systems.
The Bit-by-Bit Therapeutic Horse Riding Program is a cooperative endeavor between RSU and the Oologah-Talala Public Schools. The program promotes physical and mental health for children and adults with disabilities through therapeutic horseback riding. The Bit by Bit program is the only 11 certified equine therapy centers in Oklahoma and the only such program directly affiliated with a university.
The program provides riding sessions and other therapeutic interactions with the horses help improve balance, walking, language and cognitive skills for participating clients. During its history, the program has served more than 1,000 children and adults across Oklahoma.
