The Bachelor of Arts in Communications degree stresses competence in oral and written communication and critical thinking skills that will serve the student for a lifetime.

Students also acquire specific knowledge and skills needed to function in a variety of career opportunities at broadcast facilities, corporations, and civic enterprises.

Such endeavors include but are not limited to media production/talent, corporate management, marketing, advertising and public relations, sales promotions, law school, ministry, human relations, public speaking, and corporate and civic leadership.

Option: Communication Arts

Communication Arts explores the world of communications with a focus on oral presentation, drawing on the university’s co-curricular program in theatre. Students take courses in acting, script writing, voice and articulation. They also may participate in RSU Theatre, which presents several full-scale productions each year. The communication arts is an excellent pre-law degree or pre-seminary degree. Students will be prepared for careers such as Business Operations Manager, Media Planner, Customer Service Representative, Sales Associate, Management Trainer/Developer, Communication Consultant, Human Resources Manager, Political Campaigner and Theater Director and Actor

Option: Corporate Communications 

Corporate Communications prepares you for the responsibility of communicating on behalf of organizations, both large and small, including major companies, non-profit organizations, and governmental entities. A passport to unlimited opportunities, the corporate communications option for this bachelor degree prepares students for careers in Print or Broadcast Media, Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Sales, Promotions, Management and Electronic Media. RSU’s faculty guide students through the discipline and offer insight and directions toward achieving the bachelor degree. Coursework focuses on practical application of corporate communication theory in the workplace.

Option: Radio/Television 

Television and Radio Stations are your entry into the exciting world of broadcast media. Many of our graduates are employed by area television and radio stations in a variety of roles. Courses include news reporting, audio production, video production and media law. Students receive hands-on training as camera operators, floor directors, audio operators and graphics operators. Students can develop their own projects including news, features stories, and promotions with station equipment. Advanced students may work on high-definition digital productions.
