General Policy Statement
Rogers State University is committed to the goal of achieving equal educational opportunity and full participation for students with disabilities. Consistent with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, Rogers State University ensures that no "qualified individual with a disability" will be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or otherwise be subjected to discrimination solely on the basis of disability under any program or activity offered by Rogers State University.
Policy on Reasonable Accommodation
- Rogers State University will reasonably accommodate otherwise qualified individuals with a disability, unless such accommodation would pose an undue hardship or would result in a fundamental alteration in the nature of the service, program, or activity, or undue financial or administrative burdens. The term reasonable accommodation is used in its general sense in this policy to apply to students.
- A student must self-identify as an individual with a disability and provide appropriate diagnostic information that substantiates the disability. The Office of Student Affairs then will assess the impact of the disability on the student’s academic program and record the required academic accommodations in a memo to the instructor. All diagnostic information is confidential; therefore, memos can be sent only at the student’s request.
- Individuals who have complaints alleging, discrimination based upon a disability may file them with the University’s Affirmative Action Officer in accordance with prevailing University discrimination grievance procedures. Contact the Affirmative Action Officer or the Office of Student Affairs to obtain a complete copy of the University’s Reasonable Accommodation policy.
